The Anacortes City Attorney’s Office
represents or supervises the representation of the City of Anacortes in
all legal matters. A major function of the City Attorney is to protect
the corporate and financial interests of the City of Anacortes by
providing legal representation. The City Attorney defends lawsuits
brought against the city and actively litigates cases filed on behalf of
the City. The City Attorney also provides legal assistance to the City
Council, the Hearing Examiner, City Boards and Commissions, and City
departments. The City Attorney also is responsible for drafting or
approval of legal documents, contracts, ordinances and resolutions, and
any other types of legal documents.
The City Attorney's Office advises and represents the interests of the
city government. It does not represent individuals. The City Attorney’s
Office is strictly prohibited from providing legal advice and/or
representation to citizens. Individuals must retain private counsel for
legal assistance. |
